IBS 13th Graduation Ceremony

Scenes of happiness, relief and photo-shoots filled the Institutes’ 13th graduation ceremony. What was unique about most of the IBS graduates, compared to those of other institutions recognised by the Office of Higher Education in PNG, was they joined the line of graduates since the inception of the institution, which attained internationally-recognised qualifications after being considered as drop-outs by the formal education system in PNG. This situation was not possible in the past when institutions like IBS were non-existent. Another special feature about IBS, apart from offering second chances in life for drop-out students, is that the graduates find jobs much quicker.
Parents and Guardians of the 391 graduands, distinguished guests, staff and partners of IBS, and members of the media and the general public gathered at IBS’s Saraga Campus to witness the occasion. IBS Director, Sadiq Ali, reflected on the key achievements of IBS in 2011, including the establishing of the Eriama Valley campus at 11 Mile in NCD and the Enga Campus, an educational collaboration agreement with the Enga provincial government to offer bachelor degrees in business (accounting) and information technology, which was an initiative of Enga Governor Peter Ipatas. He also highlighted the forming of partnership between IBS and Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) of PNG to facilitate the delivery of CPA Professional Examinations Review classes.
Dr Bruce Armstrong from Southern Cross University, a partner institution to IBS, gave such a motivating speech for the graduands, instilling in them the courage and true sense of recognition and achievement. The graduands received awards from certificate to degree level, with some outstanding students receiving Best Performance awards.
The Best Performance first place awards included Senda Ruga in Bachelor Degree in Business (Accounting), Keha Temu in Bachelor Degree in Information Technology, Manasseh Varo in Advanced Diploma in Business (Accounting), Michael Larupe in Diploma in Information Technology and Newton Bariyesu in Certificate in Computing.
IBS shows great potential in advancing further into the future, with focus on its vision in becoming a world class institution.
