Careers & Advice
Career Planning
Papua New Guinea is a fast growing young nation, with a limited number of qualified nationals necessary to spearhead economic development. Professionals with qualifications in accounting, business, law, marketing and information technology are in demand. If you are strong academically and are thinking about getting an academic qualification but need help in deciding what to do, try the following:
- Think about what subjects you enjoy - what professional jobs might involve your interests?
- Talk to people you know in jobs that interest you - do voluntary work there, or ask about work experience opportunities
- Contact an employer to talk with them about their industry - make sure you've got good questions ready
- Find out what professional jobs are most needed, talk to the human resources departments’ of private and public sector organisations about employment opportunities for graduates.

Once you have identified a job you are interested in, the next step in deciding on career is to determine what knowledge, skills and personal qualities you already have, what knowledge and skills you need, and which IBS qualification(s) can bridge that gap.
