Acting Accountant – Settlements Unit, Finance & Accounting Dept.
Bank of Papua New Guinea
Bachelor of Business (Accounting), Southern Cross University, Australia
Institute of Business Studies (IBS) has always being adamant in providing quality education as shown in their mission statement. I have found that out for myself having studied at this tertiary institution. One of the reasons I believe IBS has contributed towards my career and personal development is the way in which they have approached providing quality education. One way was by forming a strategic alliance with Southern Cross University (SCU) in Australia to provide an internationally recognised course.
I have just completed an Australian Degree in Business – Accounting from SCU while studying on shore here in PNG at IBS. Therefore, I am grateful to IBS not just for making it possible to get an Australian Degree, but the process in achieving this qualification has prepared me to face the challenges of employment in my chosen career in the real world. Some extra important skills I picked up which were also requirements for most, if not all, assignments and projects were: the demand to do proper research to provide properly referenced work using the Harvard Referencing System and the exposure to using study tools online. These included: online lectures, forums and the use of discussion boards with SCU lecturers and other international/overseas students enrolled in the same SCU courses/subjects. I believe the learning experience gained has truly better equipped me and improved me as an individual and I would like to thank IBS for such an experience.
IBS has a very good learning environment conducive for learning and for the past four years of my studies, I have seen a big change in the overall outlook of the campus. Every year there is some sort of improvement taking place around the campus area. The library includes a research centre with internet access computers, air-conditioned classrooms and an open study area. Furthermore, majority of books and materials in the library are current especially relating to the courses I was studying and make it easy for referencing. However, I also found a wide and growing range of other materials by well recognised leaders in their fields.
I have always believed that the academic staff of any educational institution should be highly qualified and well experienced in order to facilitate learning and the proper transfer of knowledge. During my time of studies at IBS I have been privileged to be tutored by such professionals who are willing to put in the time and effort needed to ensure that quality education was given and received. Apart from that I also testify of the professional approach and attitude of the support staff who work tirelessly and at times under pressure to meet the demands of IBS and the needs of its students. This is also the result of vision and good management practice. Thank God for you all.
Finally, in achieving this degree, I take this opportunity to thank IBS from the management to all its staff and all the other fellow students during my study time. Furthermore, my employer and sponsor – Bank of PNG, my family and friends who have supported and inspired me and as always I thank God above all who makes all things possible.
