| The students of the Institute are provided opportunities for their career development.
The following activities come under Career Development Services: |
| Career Centre |
The Institute coordinates the job training and placement of its graduates through a career centre. The career centre maintains a comprehensive database of the qualified students and helps in placement of the right person in the right slot in an organisation. This service is provided free of charge to both the interested parties. |
| Virtual Office |
| IBS has developed a virtual office to train the graduates under a total accounting environment. This facilitates practical training in all facets of accounting within a small office, which creates the environment for interaction between the different sections of accounting. IBS also apply the same for the Computing graduates to provide the training in Hardware and Software. IBS virtual office training prepares its graduates to be productive from day one at their new work place. We believe that this would give IBS students an edge over others in employability. On the other hand, this would also help to reduce the pressure for identifying suitable external training providers as the student number increases. |
| Job Training & Recruitment |
| One of the objectives of IBS is to provide exposure to a working environment and facilitate the students to secure employment. Students following certificate courses have the opportunity of gaining work experience on completion of their course. Job training can be arranged for Diploma, Associate Degree and Degree students during their inter-semester breaks. The Innovation and Development section of IBS, arranges to secure job training in private and public sector organisations. These services are provided free of charge to IBS students and prospective employers. In addition to job training and recruitment, this section is responsible for all promotional activities including community services, career expo, sponsors and parents’ day and social commitments of IBS as a responsible corporate citizen. |
| Scholarships |
| In order to encourage academically bright but economically disadvantaged students, IBS offers scholarships. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of an Aptitude Test conducted each year. High scoring students are awarded a full or half scholarship. Special scholarships are available for disabled students. IBS also supports re-habilitation programmes and provides scholarships to Bomana prisoners serving jail sentence for minor offences and youth re-habilitation program of NCD. |
| Induction Programme |
Prior to the commencement of a teaching semester, IBS arranges an Induction week where students are briefed on IBS corporate values and policies and procedures. A tour of the campus is arranged and students are taken to various sections such as the Reception, Notice boards, classrooms, the Library, open study area, canteen, recreational area / play ground and Computer Labs. They are briefed on the requirements of the different study programmes and particularly the link programmes with foreign Universities and professional bodies. They are also briefed on student counseling, lecturer consultancy hours, different requests, which students can make, reporting authorities and student suggestion box. |
| Student Safety |
IBS is situated within 200 meters of the main bus stop at 6 mile. At any given time there would be several students both male and female, using the road leading to and from the IBS. IBS maintains good relationships with the neighboring community having provided employment opportunities for some of the youths who ensure safety of our students to and from the bus stop daily. Further, IBS employs two reserve policemen to provide security to the students at the bus stop. Within IBS premises, 24-hour security is provided to students. |
| Student Counseling |
| Academic staffs provide counseling for students including discussions of future study and career plans. They also provide advice on choice of course, part-time options, the optimum method for payment of fees, and other academic matters. Students are encouraged to use the open study hall during free time and during weekends, particularly where the home environment may not be very conducive for study. Students are encouraged to meet the lecturers regarding any difficulties they face. Weaker students are given extra attention and additional homework to improve themselves. Counseling and consultation hours are given publicity through the student Notice boards.
IBS has made an arrangement with a Professional Counselor from Transparency International to do free counseling to our students every week on specific days. |
| Student Committee |
| IBS has Student committee for the students to represent their voice. Members from various courses offered at the Institute were elected for this committee.
The Student Committee represents the student’s voice and grievances and also involves in conducting and organizing various events like Sports Day, Students Enhancing Experience Day (SEED) Programme, Graduations, Organising Visiting Lecturers and regular sports and recreational activities.
| Study Tour |
| Students are taken to manufacturing and service organisation to see how activities are conducted in an actual work situation. This helps students to understand the relevant subject matter they study more clearly during the course. Students can also relate their learning experience to relevant work place activities. |
| Presentations - Guest Lecturers |
It is our practice to invite eminent persons, CEOs and industry practitioners to speak on topical issues to our students who are reading for their degree courses at SCU and Deakin Universities of Australia. This programme assists our students to broaden their horizons and
better understand the practical side of
things.

| Student Enhancing Experience |
The opportunity to learn never stops with age and it is certainly not restricted to the confines of a classroom. The information that helps to enhance one’s knowledge comes in many forms i.e. Newspapers, magazines, journals, videos etc.
For the purpose of enhancing students’ experience and make studying a more satisfying and rewarding experience, IBS has introduced mid-1st semester and end-of-2nd semester activities. The activities range from Quizzes, Debates, Puzzles, Group Discussions, Drama and Recreational activities. IBS also shows interesting Video Clips relating to PNG during such hours.
IBS in partnership with UNICEF conducts HIV Awareness Campaign and its related shows and dramas during the Student Enhancing Experience Day Programme (SEED).
