School of Computing  
Main
The School of Computing offers course at certificate and undergraduate level. It offers courses suited for students willing to pursue future job prospects in the Information & Communication Technology field. Students can choose from short 6 month courses to 3 three courses. Working students can choose to study as part-time students. The school reviews its content every year to ensure that students are kept up to date with real business situations and practices. Depending on the course most student are able to secure jobs within 4 months of completion, business houses tend to give preference to IBS graduates. Upon completion of the course all the students are taken through a short exit programme to prepare them practically for the work challenges that may lie ahead, this course aims to create that logical link between the theory they have learnt and how they can apply it practically in the organisations they go to.

Mr. N. Sadiq Ali
B.Sc, M.C.A, PGDHRD, MACS, FPNGCS, MPNGHRI
Deputy Director

Mr. Sadiq obtained his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Computer Science and Master of Computer Applications (MCA) from the Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli, India during 1989 and 1992. In 1992 he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resources and Development (PGDHRD) from the Madurai Kamaraj University, India.

He worked with C. Abdul Hakeem College, Melvisharam, India as a lecturer for six years and Right Systems, Tiruchirapalli, India for two years as a senior faculty member.

Sadiq joined the IBS in May 2000, and was promoted to the post of Head of School of Computing in January 2003. He is an Authorised Tester for the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL), administered by the Australian Computer Society (ACS).

Sadiq conducts lectures in all the Information Technology-related subjects.The teaching competency of Mr. Sadiq include Business Information Systems, Visual Basic, Object Oriented Systems Development, Database Management, Computer Networks, E-Commerce, IT strategy and Management and Java Programming.

Sadiq presented a paper titled “IMPACT OF GLOBALISATION ON DEVELOPING COUNTRIES AND PAPUA NEW GUINEA – A REVIEW” in the International Conference on Global HR Challenges organised by Papua New Guinea Human Resource Institute and University of Papua New Guinea held in September 2006.

Sadiq conducted a research work on “EXCISE INFORMATION SYSTEMS” and prepared software for a Power Switchgear Company.
Sadiq conducted a research work on “PRODUCTION PLANNING AND CONTROL SYSTEM” for a Switchgear industry and developed software for it as the part of his Academic requirements. Sadiq also attended various national and International conferences and seminars.

Sadiq authored a textbook in "Computer Applications in Business" published by IBS, Papua New Guinea.

Sadiq revised the textbook "Fundamentals of Information Systems" in order to incorporate Internet and e-mail technologies, published by IBS, Papua New Guinea.

Sadiq revised textbook "Introduction to Computers and Windows" in order to incorporate the latest technological changes in the field of Information Technology, published by IBS, Papua New Guinea.

Sadiq authored a textbook in "Presentation – MS PowerPoint" published by IBS, Papua New Guinea.

He revised textbook "Database Management – MS Access" in order to incorporate the latest technological changes in the field of Information Technology, published by IBS, Papua New Guinea.

Sadiq authored study guides of the following subjects of Australian Computer Society’s (ACS) Professional Examination in Information Technology.

In managerial role, Mr. Sadiq functions as Deputy Director for Academic and Support Services.


Mr. Mudassir Peeran

Acting Head of School (H.O.S) - Computing

Mr. Mudassir obtained his Master Degree in Computer Science (M.Sc.,) and MBA from University of Madras, India during 2001 and 2004 respectively. In 2004 he earned M.Phil in Computer Science from Bharathidasan University, India.

He has served as a Lecturer in Computer Science at Mohamed Sathak College of Arts and Science, Chennai, India from 2001 to 2006.

The teaching competency of Mudassir includes Database Management, Data Communication and Networks, Artificial Neural Networks and Operating System.

Mudassir presented a paper titled “VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK USING CIPE AND PPTP PROTOCOL” in an International Conference held in August 2004 at Sri Sairam Engineering College, Chennai, India.

He attended a Refresher course for Lecturers on “WEB AND GRID SERVICES” at Madras Institute of Technology, Anna University, Chennai, India.

He also obtained his Professional Diploma in Network Centered Computing from NIIT, India.

 


Mr. N. Balamurugan
B.Sc., PGDCA., M.Sc (IT)., M.Phil.
Lecturer

Mr. N. Balamurugan earned his Bachelor of Physics (B.Sc.) and Post Graduate Diploma in
Computer Applications (PGDCA) from C. Addul Hakeem College, India during 1995 and 1996 respectively.

He has obtained his Master of Information Technology (M.Sc. - IT) and Master Philosophy (M.Phil.) from Algappa University, India during 2003 and 2008 respectively.

He conducted research and submitted a paper on "A Web Service for E Commerce" for the award of Master of Philosophy.

He has served as a computer lecturer cum lab in-charge in JESC Graphics Institute, India and a school teacher in CSI Matriculation School, India from 1995 to 2003 and worked as a lecturer cum system engineer in Source System, India from 2003 - 2008.

Bala taught various universities and Secondary School level syllabus in India. Apart from teaching he played a vital role in computing Institutions as a System Analyst, Programmer and Designer, Maintaining Systems, Assisting net work engineering team and he did many projects.


Mr. Nason Paulias
DIT
Demonstrator

Mr. Nason obtained his Diploma in Information Technology from the Institute of Business Studies in 2004 and also obtained his Certificate in Information Technology from the Australian Computer Society Examination in Information Technology in 2004.

At the end of 2004, he joined the IBS team as an IT Demonstrator with the School of Computing and is handling theory as well as practical classes for the Certificate in Computing course. Currently, he is also serving as an ICT officer with the ICT Department.


Mr. Lewa Lewa
B.Sc., DIT
Assistant Lecturer

Mr. Lewa Lewa obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Papua New Guinea, Mr. Lewa enrolled at the Institute of Business Studies and obtained his Diploma in Information Technology in 2007.
He joined the IBS team in the beginning of June 2007 as a Demonstrator with the School of Computing, handling practical classes for the Certificate Courses as well as the Diploma in Information Technology courses


Mr. Nick Nandoma

Assistant Lecturer

Mr. Nick Nandoma obtained his Bachelor of Information Technology majoring Management (IT. Mgt) from University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Australia in 2007.

He was studying at the University of Papua New Guinea in 2001 – 2002 and won a scholarship to pursue his further studies in Australia in 2003 – 2007.

He was working with High Arctic Energy Services contracted to Oil Search Limited from August 2007 to Feb 2009.

He joined IBS in 2009 as Assistant Lecturer with School of Computing.

He will be now teaching computing subjects to students in the Certificate Programmes.

Ms. Rebecca Paira
CIC, DIT
Demonstrator

Ms. Rebecca obtained her Diploma in Information Technology in 2007
and also her Certificate in Computing in 2005 from the Institute of
Business Studies.

She joined the IBS team in February 2008 as a Lab Demonstrator
with the School of Computing and is handling the practical classes
for both the Diploma in Information Technology and the Certificate
courses.


Ms. Anna Gagarimabu
DIT
Demonstrator

Ms. Anna Gagarimabu obtained her Diploma in Information Technology
from the Institute of Business Studies in 2007.

She joined the IBS team in April 9th 2008 as a Lab Demonstrator
with the School of Computing and is handling the practical
classes for both the Diploma in Information Technology and
the Certificate courses.
